Housing Authority of Cherokee Nation Taking Homeownership Applications in Locust Grove

LOCUST GROVE, Nov. 09 — The Housing Authority of the Cherokee Nation is opening the homeownership waiting list in Mayes County. The first twenty-five complete applications will be accepted. The head of the household or spouse must be a Cherokee Nation tribal citizen.

This list will only be used to fill Mutual Help or Rural Rental houses that the HACN has received through assignment or court proceedings. The only homeownership programs that are being administered at this time are the Mortgage Assistance Program and the Housing Mortgage Program (assumable mortgage).

The waiting list will open at 9 a.m., Tuesday, November 20, 2007, and will remain open until twenty-five applications are accepted. You may apply at the HACN office in Locust Grove, located at 322 Willard Stone Drive.

Applicants should bring the following items to be submitted with the application: Cherokee Nation Tribal Membership card, Social Security card for each person in the household, a copy of a driver’s license or state issued identification for each person 18 years of age or older, copies of marriage license/divorce decree, proof of income for all people who will be listed as living in the household and any award letter to verify SSA, SSI, or VA letters must be dated within 120 days.
